Meet Colby Harder

After arriving in the 1970’s and falling in love with the natural landscapes, my grandparents made the choice to set down roots in Langford. It was one of their best.

Like most of Langford, I grew up in a working class home. For years, my mom operated a trophy shop business handed down from my grandparents on Goldstream Avenue, while my step-dad served as a Cook in the Navy. My parents were renters and we lived in a few different homes in the Glen Lake, Belmont Park, and Goldstream Meadows neighbourhoods where I would spend my days outside with friends playing in the forest and swimming in Langford lake.

After graduating from Belmont Secondary, I chose to stay home in Langford and served tables to pay for my degree at the University of Victoria. I’ve since worked to build my professional career in the field of public administration, working both in the private sector and as a public servant with the goal of building stronger communities through engagement, education, and collective action.

For the last decade, I’ve lived in the heart of Langford alongside my husband, Keagan, and our two condo kitties, Bruce and Leroy. In 2022, I was elected as a City Councillor which has been both an immense privilege and a fulfilling adventure. When I’m not at home or at my desk, you’ll usually find me biking, hiking, jogging, or chatting with friends and neighbours around Langford.

Serving our community

I ran for Council in 2022 because I saw Langford growing quickly, but felt that the heart of our community and the needs of families and futures like mine were being left behind. Since being elected, I have focused on catching up on infrastructure, setting policy for intentional growth, while improving civic governance and engagement. Leading through collaboration over the term, my decision making has been focused on supporting stronger regional partnerships that are already delivering tangible improvements to our city’s infrastructure and public services.

But after four years, it feels like the work is just getting started.

As a young professional, I understand the struggle of trying to keep up through these times and as a City Councillor, I’m working to help you get ahead. In seeking re-election, my vision is to help you move forward by making Langford a place that’s more affordable, connected, and fun. My first term has focused on stabilizing the city’s budget while creating long-term plans that will help reduce costs for residents moving forward. If re-elected, over the next four years, I plan to stay focused on bringing new people and ideas together to create a Langford that provides inclusive spaces, accessible services, and a more stable future for generations to come.
