We've levelled the playing field for the people of Langford by setting clear rules for construction, ensuring reasonable noise levels, and giving the City new tools to fine nuisance properties and unkept properties in the event of stalled developments.

Setting the bar for community standards

For years, Langford’s rapid expansion has placed a heavy burden on existing neighborhoods. Relentless construction noise from unfettered growth, dust, construction parking, and the literal house-shaking vibrations of heavy equipment have become an exhausting daily reality for many residents. After a collaborative review with both the community and the building industry to understand the biggest challenges on the ground, the City created its first-ever comprehensive Community Standards Bylaw. 

What this means for you

This new framework allows us to better enforce reasonable construction standards and noise limits. It creates new tools and enforceable standards for Langford to fine nuisance properties and unkempt sites in the event of stalled developments. We've also added dedicated bylaw staff to help enforce construction standards so that our city's growth no longer comes at the direct expense of everyone else.
