On June 25th, 2026 Langford Council officially adopted our new Official Community Plan (OCP). This long-term award-winning roadmap replaces our 2008 version, ties together the City’s new master plans, and sets a clear, modern strategy for how our city will grow, build, and thrive as we work toward a population of 100,000.
The refresh was guided by an 18-month, "Made in Langford" process shaped by thousands of your conversations, surveys, and ideas.
What this means for you
The updated OCP is built around the "Five Crises" that impact your daily life: housing affordability, climate change, social equity, public health, and infrastructure costs. Here's a few of the key updates:

Predictable Growth: For the first time, we have set specific height and density limits. This will help deter future sprawling subdivisions and disconnected neighbourhoods. While high-rises remain in strategic areas, the plan prioritizes mid-rise and ground-oriented housing to create more housing variety in our community.

A More Walkable City: We are shifting away from car-dependency. The plan supports better transit, walkable downtown areas, and smarter urban design that makes it easier to get around without a vehicle.

Quality First: Every new development will now be measured by how it addresses our community’s needs, ensuring that as we grow, we remain a vibrant, sustainable, and connected city.
